Learning Tree School was founded by its present principal, Hjh. Mahani binti Haji Osman, on 2nd January 1989 as a kindergarten operating under the name 'Learning Tree Kindergarten'. It started with 9 students, one teacher and one helper.
The original Learning Tree Kindergarten was located at : A1, Simpang 284-2, Bolkiah Married Quarters, Jalan Berakas, Brunei Darussalam. The initial conception of the kindergarten was to provide an early learning centre for children who had parents working in the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF). Civilian families were most welcome to enroll their children in the kindergarten as well.
On the 4th January 1993, a second branch opened its doors at : No. 436, Simpang 432, Jalan Kebangsaan, Brunei Darussalam. This was done in order to cope with the influx of more children into the kindergarten. By the end of December 1997, the house used for the original Learning Tree Kindergarten was needed by the RBAF and had to be handed back. This move forced all of the children studying at the original site to be transferred to the Kebangsaan branch. To accommodate them, several new extensions were made to the 'Kebangsaan' Learning Tree.
The year is 2000; the kindergarten recently celebrated its 10th year anniversary (in 1999) and also recently had its proposal for the opening of Primary I classes approved by the Government. Thus leading to the change in identity from 'Learning Tree Kindergarten' to 'Learning Tree School'. The school had now grown to a population of 185 students, 15 teachers, 3 helpers and one secretary.
In January 2001, Learning Tree expanded into Primary classes. To accomodate this, new space had to be sourced to house the new classes. The answer; a house just next to the 'Kebangsaan' Learning Tree. The new building houses the Primary classes (Primary block) while the 'Kebangsaan' Learning Tree was dedicated for the Nursery, Kindergarten 1 and Kindergarten 2 classes (Kindergarten block).
